Sabine’s freezing morning behind the scenes

?

Last week I had a really interesting day. We were shooting one of the last episodes of Food of the Earth. We left in the middle of the night (about 02.30) to go to the distribution factory of Tnuva, one of the biggest distributors of dairy products in Israel. We went there to shoot one of the last part of this episode about diary products. It was freezing in the big refrigerator (the place where they organized the yogurts and milk) and I think the whole crew was longing for a hot cup of coffee or teaג€¦.Me and my colleague Avi where talking about this depressive work (working at night in four degrees, while the rest of the world lies in a warm bed) and I asked him if he would do the work for one night for 1000 dollars. He agreedג€¦but really one nightג€¦.We also talked about all the imaginary warm places in the world. You find out what you miss until you don’t have it anymore (in this case a body temperature above 36 degrees).

Anyway, after we shoot the most important things in the fridge (and after the coffee) we left to Ashdod to shoot a different chapter which include the distribution of tomatoes. It wasn’t that easy to enter the harbor of Ashdod with a Dutch girl and with Ayal (the presenter) who forget his ID. So a few hours later, when they finally let us in (after several check ups; no we aren’t terrorists who want to attack your harbor and no we are not planning on smuggle drugs through the tomatoes!) and the harbor opened itself as a playground for adults! The port was crowded with working men, and the camera really made us an attraction so in a short while we were surrounded by curious men. They showed us how to work the fork-lift truck. A few minutes later there was this race between the director Avida, Ayal and the ship-worker on the fork-lift truck! This was really funny! After all it was an interesting day with a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to the next shooting day, something with sperm and bulls?! I will keep you postedג€¦
