Synopsis
Food, like language, is an essential and fundamental part of all cultures. The series "Food of the Earth" sets out to survey this basic aspect of Israeli culture historically, gastronomically, socially, politically, economically and poetically.
The point of departure of the series is the food itself, its basic elements, the raw materials that make up the Israeli kitchen and the Israeli food culture
the first part of the series will look at the tomato, grapes, milk and chicken. Along with these principles the series will go into the cooking itself: through demonstrating old recipes, introducing new uses of existing materials and taking trips - to the field, factories, comestible institutes, and home and institutional kitchens.
The series will be presented by Chef Ayal Shani - not only an outstanding cook but also a connoisseur of all that food culture entails - who will move between the different sites, meet, talk, explain and maybe also… cook.
